Danny McConnell is the Family YMCA of Greater Augusta’s President/CEO. He’s been with our association for 16 years, but his Y story begins way earlier than that. “I was a newspaper boy when I was 13 years old. I started delivering paper to a new customer who happened to be sent to my hometown to start a YMCA. Within the first year of meeting him, I quickly became a volunteer coach, camp counselor and got involved at the YMCA.
My first part-time Y job was the night front desk clerk for the Cornelius, North Carolina YMCA. I helped drive membership to our branch, I loved it!
“The Y has had an unbelievable impact on me personally—if it weren’t for the help of someone else brought into my life, planting the seed in me and encouraging me when I was younger, I wouldn’t be here with the YMCA today.”
I didn’t pursue a Y career after I graduated college and I was miserable working in my other job. God was tugging on my heart that I was supposed to be working for the YMCA.
