Youth Basketball
Basketball was invented in 1891. While teaching at the International YMCA Training School, James Naismith was given the challenge of creating a game that could be played indoors during the cold winter months. Hanging simple peach baskets and using a soccer ball, Naismith created the game of basketball and wrote the first 13 rules of the game.
The Family Y of Greater Augusta’s Youth Basketball league is open to kids ages 2-14. Every child should participate in every game and should receive equal playing time, regardless of skill level.
Iddy Bitty (ages 3-4)
Aiken Iddy Bitty Basketball | Ages 3–4
Little players, big fun! This skills and drills program introduces children to the basics of basketball through age-appropriate activities that build coordination, confidence, and teamwork.
Practices begin the week of January 11. Your child’s coach will contact you with specific practice days and times.
- Games will be held on Tuesdays or Thursdays at 6:00 PM, with the season concluding the week of February 22.
- All basketball participants and spectators must enter and exit the gym through the YMCA’s west side doors.
- Schedules will be posted at aiken.ygametime.com.

Lil' Hoopers (Ages 3-4) Wilson 2027
Tiny Hoops. Big Dreams.
Lil’ Hoopers is back with a new playbook!
Our basketball league for ages 3 and 4 has a fresh format this season. First, our Little Hoopers will team up with their volunteer coach for three practices to learn the basics and build their confidence. Then it’s game time: three games against other teams, with a picture day along the way!
The season runs January 23–March 13, 2027. Games will take place on Saturdays between 9:00 a.m. and noon. Each volunteer coach will select their team’s practice day and time.
Get ready for little dribbles, big smiles, and plenty of “Did you see that?!” moments. Let’s hoop!

Build skills, make friends, and have fun on the court! YMCA U7 Basketball introduces young players to basketball fundamentals while encouraging teamwork, confidence, and good sportsmanship. All skill levels are welcome!
