Youth Basketball
Basketball was invented in 1891. While teaching at the International YMCA Training School, James Naismith was given the challenge of creating a game that could be played indoors during the cold winter months. Hanging simple peach baskets and using a soccer ball, Naismith created the game of basketball and wrote the first 13 rules of the game.
The Family Y of Greater Augusta’s Youth Basketball league is open to kids ages 3-14. Every child should participate in every game and should receive equal playing time, regardless of skill level.
Summer Basketball Clinic 202 Senior Division (10-12 yr old)
The summer basketball clinic is a program designed to cover all the various skills important to basketball. The clinic will be run over three weeks on Mondays and Wednesdays with a 1 hour session each Monday and Wednesday. The dates for the clinic are from Monday 22 July – 2 August and sessions run from 7-8 pm. The clinic will conclude with a basketball tournament comprised of teams selected by coaches during the clinic. the sessions will be held on the main basketball court at the Wilson YMCA. Please provide the following equipment for participation in the clinic: athletic attire, court shoes, a basketball if you have one, and a water bottle.
