Pickleball isn’t just for adults – it’s the fastest-growing sport in America for all ages! The North Jefferson YMCA’s Youth Pickleball Program is a coed program that introduces kids to this exciting, fast-paced game in a fun, supportive environment. Our program is designed to teach the fundamentals of pickleball, improve coordination, and build confidence on and off the court.
Why Pickleball?
Pickleball is a fun, inclusive sport that’s easy to learn but provides a challenge for all skill levels. It promotes physical fitness, hand-eye coordination, and strategic thinking. Best of all, it’s a game that kids can play for life!
Program Highlights:
- Skill Development – Players will learn the basics of pickleball, including rules, scoring, and techniques such as dinking, volleys, and serves.
- Active and Engaging – Coaches will lead participants through drills, games, and mini-tournaments to keep them moving while improving agility, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
- Team Building and Friendships – Pickleball is a social sport! Kids will have the opportunity to connect with peers, build friendships, and develop communication skills.
- Confidence and Growth – As players progress, they will build self-confidence through positive reinforcement, goal-setting, and skill challenges.

- Location: North Jefferson YMCA
- Ages: 6-8, 9-11, 12-14 (Beginner and Intermediate Levels Available)
- Equipment: Paddles can be provided for those who need them, but participants are encouraged to bring their own gear. Balls will be provided

9-11
Youth Pickleball (Ages 9-11)
The 9-11 age group focuses on skill development followed by competitive play through a structured ladder league. In the initial weeks, participants will practice key pickleball techniques, including serving, volleys, and positioning, to build a strong foundation.
After the practice phase, players will take part in a 6-7 week competitive ladder league. The ladder format allows participants to compete against others at a similar skill level and work their way up the rankings throughout the season. This division emphasizes fun, friendly competition, and sportsmanship.

- Sportsmanship and teamwork
- Ladder league competition to track progress and rankings
Program Outline:
- Practice Weeks:
- March 3rd to March 14th: Focused practices on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays.
- Sessions will include skill-building drills, strategy discussions, and practice games to prepare players for competition.
- Ladder League Scrimmage:
- On March 17th, players will participate in a Ladder League scrimmage to familiarize themselves with match play and ladder ranking.
- Ladder League Matches:
- Start March 19th and continue every Tuesday and Thursday until April 3rd.
- Players will compete in a structured ladder format, where they’ll have the opportunity to challenge opponents at their skill level and work their way up the rankings.
- Each match day will include a warm-up session followed by official games.
- League Finale:
- On April 3rd, the final matches will be played, and medals will be awarded to the top-ranking players in each age group.

Youth Pickleball (Ages 12-14)
The 12-14 age group focuses on both skill refinement and competitive game strategy. In the initial weeks, participants will practice advanced pickleball techniques and strategies to prepare for competitive matches.
Following the practice phase, players will participate in a 6-7 week ladder league. The competitive format allows players to challenge themselves, improve their rankings, and experience real match play in a supportive environment.
