You’re probably familiar with the YMCA facilities, staff and programs. But did you know that your YMCA is a nonprofit that improves community health and saves lives, develops future leaders and supports achievement for all? As you consider end-of-year giving options, take a minute to read the many ways that the YMCA is directly impacting our neighbors across the CSRA.
FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
No one is ever turned away from the YMCA for their inability to pay. Every year, we provide at least $2,000,000 in financial assistance for programs and membership. We put no limit on the number of scholarships we provide.
A PLACE TO DREAM
Through our A Place to Dream bed program, we provide families in need with beds, bedding, stuffed animals and Bibles. The amount of beds we are able to provide is directly tied to donations and volunteers.
CHERYL's KITCHEN
Our summer food program ramped up during the COVID pandemic and has continued to provide assistance to families in need. Since March 2020, we have distributed 3.3 million meals in our YMCA facilities and mobile sites.
SAFETY AROUND WATER
Drowning is the second leading cause of death for children 1-14 years old, and that's why the Y is committed to teaching children life-saving water safety skills through Safety Around Water and swim lessons.
YOUTH DEVELOPMENT
When school ends for the day, Prime Time After School provides a safe place for learning to continue. Financial assistance makes this childcare possible for many families.
CAMP
More than 8,000 children attended camp at the Y in 2023. Camp gives children a place to learn, socialize and play while giving parents peace of mind when school is out for the summer.
DISASTER RELIEF
In the aftermath of Hurricane Helene, our Y stepped up to get food where it was needed. In addition to our own program, we supported Golden Harvest to distribute 91,200 meals throughout the region.
DISASTER RELIEF
Access to safe drinking water was critical in the wake of Hurricane Helene. We distributed more than 4,000 cases of water locally, plus donated 102,816 bottles to Western North Carolina.
MAKE A DIFFERENCE TODAY
Through a gift to the YMCA’s Annual Campaign, you can teach a child to swim, prevent summer learning loss and provide cancer survivors with a supportive community. 100% of your gift goes to support children, adults and communities in need. We hope that you will consider supporting the YMCA in your end-of-year giving plans.
