SWIM AT THE YMCA

The Family YMCA of Greater Augusta’s aquatics programs are available at five locations and include swim lessons for all ages, swim team, SAW (Safety Around Water) and water aerobics. Adapted aquatics programs are offered in the indoor Kathryn M. York Aquatics Center, also known as Katie’s Pool, at the Wilson Family Y.

Swim Lessons

We offer group or private swim lessons for infants, youth and adults at five locations across the CSRA. Swim lessons are available year-round at the Wilson Family YMCA, and during the summer at the Aiken County Family YMCA, Barnwell County Family YMCA, Burke County Family YMCA and Thomson Family YMCA. Our program includes games and activities, which have been designed to allow students to practice the skills they are learning while having fun at the same time. Our swim lessons offer more than just techniques and skills in the water; they are about building friendships, developing self-esteem and creating positive experiences for people of all ages.

Adult Swim Lessons

You are never too old to learn how to safely enjoy the water! Beginner and advanced swim lessons are offered for individuals. Beginners will learn the front crawl and rhythmic breathing, elementary backstroke, bobbing, entries and treading skills. Intermediates will build on beginner skills and learn stroke technique, lap swimming, flip turns, kickboard use and more.

How to Register

Register online for small group swim lessons, or contact the aquatics staff at your local YMCA location to register for private lessons.

SWIM TEAM

Already a great swimmer? Sign-up for one of our swim teams! YMCA swim teams are recreational while also expanding on the fundamentals of competitive swimming. Swim team is open to anyone between the ages of 5 and 21. To qualify for a swim team, a swimmer must be able to complete 1 length (25M) of freestyle and 1 length (25M) backstroke without a pause. We have two swim team locations:

  • Aiken Armadas at the Aiken County Family YMCA
  • Barracuda Swim Team at the Wilson Family YMCA
