Have a Safe Summer

Water safety is critical to a successful summer. The Y is one of the nation’s leading providers of swim lessons and water safety instruction. Swimming is a lifelong skill that everyone, at any age, can benefit from. The Y encourages children and adults to have fun and enjoy the various benefits of swimming, but to always make safety their first priority. The Y recommends children and adults practice the following safety tips when in and around the water:

  • Only swim when and where there is a lifeguard on duty; never swim alone.
  • Adults should constantly and actively watch their children.
  •  Inexperienced or non-swimmers should wear a Coast Guard-approved life jacket.
  • Parents or guardians of young children should be within an arm’s reach.
  • Children and adults should not engage in breath holding activities.

Learn more about swim lessons here. Call your local Y for more details.

POLICIES

Swim Bands: All swimmers 15 and under must wear a swim band on the pool deck. If a swimmer passed a swim test last summer, they will still need to retake it for the 2022 season.

Floats: All flotation devices must be U.S. Coast Guard approved or they will not be allowed in the pool.
